Developers for MSN Games to be given a small piece of the pie

Microsoft today unveiled plans to share a percentage of in-game advertising revenue from MSN Games with its casual game developers. Funds will accrue monthly, with developers sharing a percentage of the gross revenue received from the advertisements shown during online gameplay for their titles, including ads served during the loading screens at the start of a game or in between levels, as well as ads placed in or around the game window during gameplay.

Microsoft estimates that the developers of the five most popular titles on MSN Games participating in the Ad-Share Program are likely to share nearly $250,000 annually, based on current in-game advertising revenue rates.

“Casual game developers traditionally operate on a limited revenue model, typically receiving a set fee from downloadable titles or a small royalty associated with game subscriptions," said Chris Early, studio manager for Microsoft Casual Games at Microsoft.

The BlackBerry Pearl Review

That is quite a bold statement that I just made. I have used pretty much every Palm OS and Windows Mobile Smartphone out there over the past few years. If I haven't tested and reviewed them, I have played with them in the stores. There are some SmartPhones I have loved and some I have hated, but none than I craved more than the one I have been testing for the past three weeks - The BlackBerry Pearl. This is, hands down, the most amazing piece of SmartPhone hardware (with very capable software) that I have ever used. Read on to see why this little "Gem" of a Phone is so incredibly cool. .

Disney’s Spectrobes Unveiled

Disney Interactive Studios officially introduced its new Nintendo DS video game franchise, Spectrobes, over the weekend during a world premiere event at Disneyland's Tomorrowland. Special guest Jason Dolley from the Disney Channel series Cory in the House joined Disney Interactive Studios' producer Kentaro Hisai in welcoming 60 local fourth graders from Gauer Elementary School to be among the first to play the innovative title.

Spectrobes takes players on an intergalactic journey as two junior Planetary Patrol officers named Rallen and Jeena set out to save the galaxy by awakening, training and collecting prehistoric creatures known as Spectrobes. These creatures hold the key to defeating merciless enemies known as the Krawl.

The students were able to give the game a spin at multiple kiosks in Tomorrowland as videos depicting the Spectrobes story origin played in the background.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, in memoriam Keith Parkinson (1958-2005)

Known for his artwork in EverQuest and Magic: The Gathering, Keith Parkinson sadly passed away in 2005 due to Acute Myelogeneous Leukemia (AML). Sadly, too, because he was set to compose the box art for SOE's Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. He knew this, though, and when he knew he could not complete this task, he passed on his work to his friend Donato Giancola, to finish the job he had set out to do.

The art exhibit "The Masters of Fantasy Art Tour: Keith Parkinson" doubled as the launch event for Vanguard. Ten Ton Hammers took some pictures of the event where the memory and legacy of Parkinson was displayed and honored as SOE also celebrated Vanguard's launch - Keith's last legacy. The box art that Donato completed became one of the artworks, too, a memorial to his departed friend (Donato painted Keith into the box art - see if you can spot him).

Cartoon Network Reveals New Shows

In addition, the presentation featured a sneak peek at its massively multi-player game for 2008 and announced a live-action Ben 10 movie in production.

The new series Santo (working title) is described as comic-book-style action- adventure series based on the legend of real-life Mexican wrestling hero Santo, El Enmascarado de Plata (the silver masked man).
