Indiana video game bill moving forward

Even though a bill proposing gaming regulations was stalled in Indiana before legislators could vote on it last year, lawmakers are once again proposing restrictions on video game sales. Senators David C. Ford (Republican) and Vi Simpson (Democrat) have introduced a bill that would ban the sale of video games with an M (Mature) or AO (Adult Only) rating to minors. This week, the Senate Committee on Economic Development and Technology recommended it be passed by the Senate in a 5-2 vote. Before voting, committee members had been shown controversial footage from video games, that reportedly included characters "urinating on victims and setting them on fire" and "gunning down people in a church." Another video game rewarded achievements by showing footage of strippers. A representative of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) argued before the committee that the bill was unconstitutional like many others struck down across the United States.

Pick a good Wii game, and find some crazy fun

Video games made for kids behave a lot like cartoons do. Animated characters stick their fingers up their noses and shoot guns at bad guys. It's surprising no game has yet been named, "Bang-Bang, Where's Your Booger, Bugs?" It'd be a runaway hit.

In fact, in January, the new Nintendo Wii became the month's best-selling system partly by using cartoons, nostrils and weapons to appeal to kids and (there's no polite way to say this) female gamers who used to hate video games. The Wii pushed 435,000 systems at $250 apiece. Amazing.

It's hard not to keep the nose/gun/cartoon equation in mind when you play Wii games for kids. Many titles rely on it. A few thumb their noses at it.

"It just got lost in the recruiting."Broyles said on Jan. 26 that he still planned to give Nutt a raise despite much displeasure from fans regarding the direction of Arkansas' football program. At the time, Broyles said he hoped to get Nutt's raise finalized by early February when the coach could take a break from recruiting.

She will never be home for Christmas

In the Jemez Mountains of the Santa Fe National Forest, about three hours drive out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, at 8000 feet is a wonderful place called Rancho del Chaparral. It is the summer camp for the Chaparral Girl Scout Council of Albuquerque. When the Colonel was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque our daughter attended many Girl Scout functions at that camp. I came to like it so much that for three years I would spend weeks at a time volunteering my labor, helping the camp Ranger do needed maintenance. In return for my free labor I got to hike in the forest and watch elk walk past me in the evening, when all was quiet. Prior to moving to New Mexico my daughter and I had done Civil War re-enacting and I had built a wooden handcart. I used the handcart to simulate removing the wounded and dead from a re-enacting battlefield.
