A biting war of words between Heat-Mavs

It has been eight months since Dwyane Wade grabbed that rebound, looked at the clock and launched the basketball in the air at American Airlines Center to kick off the most significant celebration in Heat history.

The Heat returns to Dallas tonight for the first time since claiming its NBA title on June 20, 2006, in Game 6 against the Mavericks. And while this matchup doesn't quite have an NBA Finals feel, there is plenty of reason to anticipate the second and final regular-season meeting between the Heat and Mavs.

Since their first regular-season game Jan. 21, Wade -- who left Wednesday's game at Houston in a wheelchair after an injury to his left shoulder -- Mavs owner Mark Cuban and Dirk Nowitzki have renewed a public exchange of words that received a lot of attention and brought another element to the budding rivalry.

Henry doubt for troubled Arsenal

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Captain Thierry Henry has only a 50-50 chance of being fit to play for injury-hit Arsenal in Wednesday's Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven.

Manager Arsene Wenger said the France striker was suffering from back and foot injuries with the latter the most serious, making him very doubtful for the last 16 second leg clash at the Emirates stadium.

Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky is suffering with a groin injury and will definitely miss the knockout round, second leg game in which Arsenal trail 1-0 from the first leg.

Wenger has already ruled Henry out of Saturday's Premier League clash with visitors Reading and confirmed that Arsenal's injury list was now "so long that I don't know where to start.

"The only good thing I can say is that Abou Diaby is back in the group, but we have only 14 players now fit," he said after the French midfielder recovered from an ankle injury.

Contrary to popular opinion, the men in black are human

ANOTHER week and another list of suspects all willing to turn on referees. Some will have been genuinely wronged, some will have lambasted the poor referee only to discover he was right all along and some won't have minded one way or the other, the objective was always simply to deflect attention away from their own failings.

Who would be a referee? I know I wouldn't and I would bet that very few, if any, coaches or managers would take the job. The fact is we have all had to perform the role in training or in bounce matches from time to time and I would guarantee that virtually every one of us hated it. Why? Because it's too difficult and too much hassle. Players challenge decisions, the view is often obscured and we don't have eyes in the back of our head. But although we know it is a tough job, managers, coaches, players are all increasingly willing to make it even harder.

Second season: Samsons enter tourney play Sunday

IRONWOOD -- The Gogebic Community College Samsons played one of the three teams in the NJCAA Division II Region 13 tournament, Bismarck State. GCC won the game here 121-115.

GCC drew Bismarck State for Sunday's 8 p.m. semifinal in Bismarck, N.D. Bottineau and United Tribes play in the other semifinal Sunday. The championship game is set for Monday at 8.

Bismarck State and the other teams in the region have all beaten each other.

The Samsons finished the regular season 11-15.

"We're better than our record shows," first-year coach Eric Gardow said. "Now we just have to prove it."

The sub-.500 record could help them. "I like where we're at because our record may fool some people," Gardow said. "We'll see what we can do with this team in the tournament."

Warning call on driving games

ON-screen driving games should carry warnings in a bid to prevent young drivers confusing fantasy with reality.

That's the view of Dave Merritt who lost his daughter Debbie in a car accident in 2004 after a survey showed that "game boy racers" drive recklessly after playing on computer consoles.

A survey for driving school BMS revealed that more than a third of motorists aged 16 to 24 said they were more likely to go faster on the roads after playing driving games.
