Apple's Steve Jobs urges music labels to drop online copying ...
In an open letter on Tuesday, Apple's Steve Jobs urged music companies to eliminate digital rights management software that restricts how downloads can be used, arguing the technology irks consumers and hasn't halted piracy. He said frustration over DRM should be directed at the labels, not Apple, and said that if the music companies would allow Apple to sell files without the restrictions, it would do so "in a heartbeat." Under terms reached with the major record labels, online music stores embed software code into the digital song files they sell to restrict the ability to copy them. Apple uses its own system and the songs it sells can be played only on the iPod. This limitation has drawn opposition in Europe in particular. After filing an initial complaint back in June 2006, the Norwegian Consumer Council recently decided that FairPlay (iTunes DRM) illegal in Norway with the possibility of France and Germany following suit.
Our family has its own soccer board game
Nearly 3,000 copies of KickOff have already been produced after the Bradshaw family from Warwick came up with an idea for the board game as they settled down to watch football on TV. The idea struck production manager Karl, aged 44, who plays for Long Itchington FC, while he was watching a live Premiership match with his two sons Jason, aged 18 and Thomas, aged 14, and wife Lyn at their home in Tithe Barn, Hampton Magna. After months spent developing the game as a family, they have now signed a deal with a leading manufacturing company and have plans to distribute it to toy shops across the country. Karl said: "We developed it just for us to play as a family but then I started to think it was a really good concept. "I have had 100 copies made and another 2,500 on their way from China to go on sale in some of the larger toy shops around.

For more than a decade value-added CD and DVD packaging have spurred sales and achieved very impressive appearances and functions. Finally, the brethren to physical packaging in the digital arena has arrived, and it too offers distributors unlimited premium services for their targeted consumers. As the game, music, film and television industries adjust their business models from a physical to a digitally-managed and digitally-distributed environment; visionaries have curiously asked 'what does digital packaging consist of?' Is it possible to provide exclusive packaging to the consumer and control its digital proliferation? Heavy Metal musician Rob Halford (Halford / Judas Priest vocalist) launched his new label Metal God Entertainment late-November 2006; utilizing digital distribution as his exclusive means to distribute current and future music and film product www.HalfordMusic.com.
