Rayz come away with a win in dramatic fashion

Corpus Christi scored the tying goal before the third-period buzzer and then won 4-3 in a shootout over the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday night at the Ector County Coliseum.

The Rayz (29-19-6, 64 points) extended their road unbeaten streak to a Central Hockey League-best eight games and reduced their magic number for clinching a playoff spot to 10 points. It was the first victory at the ECC for the Rayz since Jan. 1, 2005, snapping a six-game winless streak in West Texas.

Center Justin Quenneville scored twice, including the shootout winner, and added two assists to lead the Rayz' attack.

Corpus Christi appeared destined for a tough-luck loss after Odessa defenseman Alex Dunn scored a power-play goal at 15:09 of the third period to give the Jackalopes a 3-2 advantage.

With four seconds remaining in regulation, Rayz defenseman Todd Paul took a shot from the top of the left circle that was tipped by Quenneville and then redirected by captain Matt Turek past goalie Derek Dolson with five-hundredths of a second to go.

Pontiac honors detective's 40 years of service

They told stories about his heroics, such as surviving being shot in the line of duty a short time after becoming a Pontiac police offi cer.

Jane Walter became Serna's partner in the detective bureau in 1986. They continued that relationship for the next 18 years and hold the department record for longest partnership, she said.

"I was blessed with the best," said Walter, who retired in 2004. "I was lucky to have him as a partner.

"We both liked to work hard and had a real passion for the job."

The homicide rate was up in the city at the time they began working together, putting them in the middle of several highprofile cases, she said.

One homicide Serna and Walter worked on together would have them handling Oakland County's fi rst case where DNA evidence was used, she said.

Evolution design team talks about MotorStorm in online forum session

With the launch of MotorStorm, the off-road PS3 sensation developed by Evolution and published by Sony, getting closer, it was time to open up the forums for a live chat with several key members of the development team about the title.

On hand to answer questions were Simon Benson, producer, Nigel Kershaw, who was Senior Designer on MotorStorm and the Manager of all the other designers; Paul Rustchynsky, an integral member of the design team; and John McLaughlin, the SCEE associate producer.

While the forum was very free flowing and the questions covered a wide range of topics, here is what was gleaned during the conversation.

Online races will feature 12 total players and at launch, the only offline mode will be single player. MotorStorm will have its share of downloadable content, but as the moderators stated, "you guys have got the whole game to look forward to first."

Question: Will MotorStorm ever feature any type of remote-play functionality with the PSP such as live orbit camera or rearview mirror.

High Impact delivers the goods with portable ‘Ratchet and Clank’

But the only thing scary about Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters is how good a job High Impact did taking care of Insomniacs baby. Hold the PSP really close to your face, or perhaps tape a television antenna to it, and you might as well be playing the series fifth console game instead of its portable debut. Outside of some (very) slight graphical downgrades and some unavoidable control issues related to the lack of two joysticks (switching to first-person view is cumbersome and pointless), Matters takes everything thats great about the series and shrinks it down with jaw-dropping ease. In fact, Matters does the series one better by returning it to its pre-Deadlocked roots. Our charming robot friend Clank is back in a prominent (and playable) role, the balance between platforming, puzzle-solving and shooting is happily restored, and the cheekily funny single-player adventure receives the same level of care as the games multiplayer component.

PS2 Review: Lumines Plus

Squares have never been seen the same way since Lumines hit the puzzle scene at the launch of Sony's PSP, and while it's surprising it took so long, the musical match up title finally hits the Playstation 2.

Lumines Plus for the PS2 changes only a sliver of the original Lumines release's content in 2005, but thankfully for Buena Vista (now Disney Interactive), the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes into fruition. With an injection of extra skins from Lumines II, Lumines Plus plays 99 percent identical to the original iteration - and that's initially a good thing, especially for gamers giving the series a first go, but not quite as much for those who already played the original to death.

While dropping squares of two colors down to form same-colored squares doesn't sound too appealing off the bat, leave it to the creator of Rez to work in the aesthetics that really drive a player's sense of sight and sound.

Could this be Powerstone for Wii - new Grim Adventures screens

The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is a four-player fighting game with characters and scenes based on the Cartoon Network show - another one for the kids.Players will do battle using weapons and items in the destructible arenas. It sounds similar to Powerstone which, if you don't know (criminal), is an awesome arena battle game originally on Dreamcast. Here are five new screens that introduce four of the game's wacky characters, The Boogeyman, Nergal, Irwin and General Skarr. The game is due out on Wii on March 16. .
